For the second time in three seasons, the Ohio State Club Football team is sending one of its wide receivers to the next level.
Chris Booker, who played the entire 2018 season for the club program at Ohio State, has joined Ryan Day’s squad for the 2019 season. It makes him the first club receiver to make the jump to varsity since De’Shawn White did so midway through the 2017 campaign.
“We could not be more excited for Chris and his family,” said James Grega, second year head coach of the club football program. “Chris is one of the most genuine kids I’ve ever been around, and on top of that, he is one of the most talented as well. I cannot wait to see what he does at the next level.”
Booker caught 14 passes for 371 yards and seven touchdowns in just four games in 2018, helping lead the club Buckeyes to their first-ever division title. His best performance came against rival Miami (OH), when he caught five passes for 173 yards and three scores in a 36-21 win. He was named a first-team All-American by the National Club Football Association following his lone season in the league.
He joins the likes of White, Madu Eneli, Kato Mitchell, Chris Fong and Eli Goins as players who have made the jump from the club program to the varsity team.
Booker started his collegiate playing career at the University of Dayton, and played prep football at John Burroughs High School in St. Louis. He will wear No. 86 for the varsity Buckeyes.
