Peoria, Ill. – A strong second half performance by the Ohio State offensive line led to a 42-7 win over Robert Morris University – Peoria on Saturday, September 28.
The two teams traded touchdowns and turnovers in the first half, leading to a 7-7 halftime score.
Following a fumble by RMU-Peoria on its opening drive, Ohio State marched 82-yards to take a 7-0 lead, capped by a four yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kellyn Gerenstein to tight end Justin Cook.
The Eagles tied the game in the second quarter on a 69-yard touchdown run from running back Amanjah Jackson. A potential go-ahead drive by RMU-Peoria was stifled right before halftime as safety DaJuan Seward stepped in front of a Kristan Flowers pass at the 4-yard line, sending the game to halftime with a 7-7 tie.
Ohio State opened the second half with the ball and marched 51 yards for a touchdown, scored from one yard out by Gerenstein. The Buckeyes scored again on a 44-yard pass from Gerenstein to Geoff Green, pushing the score to 21-7.
On the ensuing drive, Seward stepped in front of an Eagles pass and scampered 47 yards for a score, extending the Ohio State lead to 28-7 entering the fourth quarter.
The Buckeyes rode running back Madu Eneli and their slew of running backs to victory in the fourth quarter. In all, Ohio State ran for 215 yards on 32 carries and three scores on the ground. Eneli led all Buckeyes with 11 carries for 105 yards. Gerenstein toted the ball eight times for 42 yards and a pair of scores, while Micah Fliegel accounted for the other score, plunging in from a yard out in the fourth.
Green finished with three receptions for 74 yards and the long scoring catch. Gerenstein finished 7-of-11 through the air for 111 yards and two scores and an interception.
Ohio State is set to return to action on Sunday, October 6 against Milwaukee Club Football. The Eagles will take on Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville.
