For the first time in the 10 year history of the program, the Ohio State Club Football team has the distinction of being ranked as the top team in the National Club Football Association.
The Buckeyes received nine of 13 first-place votes in the Week 3 polls after defeating No. 5 Robert Morris University – Peoria, 42-7, on the road in their second game of the season. The victory over the Eagles came six days after a 41-7 win over then-No. 1 ranked and defending NCFA runner-up Oakland in the season opener.
Before earning the No. 1 ranking, Ohio State had previously risen to No. 2 twice in program history, most recently last week following the victory over Oakland. The Buckeyes also earned the second spot during the Week 9 rankings in 2013.
Through the first three weeks of the 2019 NCFA season, Ohio State has the best point differential of any team in the league, outscoring opponents by an average of 34.5 points per game. Sophomore quarterback Kellyn Gerenstein leads the NCFA in touchdowns accounted for (7) among teams that have submitted stats, and junior running back Madu Eneli leads all players in rushing yards with 180.
In all, Ohio State has scored 11 touchdowns in two games, eight of which have been scored by a different player (only Gerenstein and wide receiver Geoff Green have accounted for more than one).
The Buckeyes will attempt to defend their top ranking on Sunday, October 6 against the Milwaukee Football Club at home. Kick is set for Noon.
