Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State Club Football team moved to 5-0 on Sunday, October 27 with a 46-2 victory over division and in-state opponent Wright State. It was the Buckeyes’ sixth straight victory over the Raiders dating back to 2015.
The game was called with 40 seconds remaining in the first half after Wright State conceded the game due to low roster numbers after suffering multiple injuries.
Junior De’Shawn White started the contest by returning the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, adding a 61 yard touchdown reception to his total in the first half. He finished with 213 total yards.
Sophomore quarterback Kellyn Gerenstein finished the day 9-of-12 passing for 189 yards and three touchdowns, also finding freshman Casey Scroggins and senior Jordan Mohler for touchdowns of 22 and 38 yards respectively. He added touchdown runs of 57 and three yards, accounting for five total touchdowns on the day.
Gerenstein has now thrown 11 touchdown passes on the season, breaking the previous program record of 10 which was set in 2013 by current head coach James Grega and matched by Gerenstein last season.
Junior running back Madu Eneli accounted for the seventh touchdown, taking a handoff from Gerenstein and scampering up the Wright State sideline for a 45 yard score. Eneli finished with six carries for 75 yards and the score.
Defensively, Ohio State posted its second straight shutout, with Wright State’s only points coming on a blocked extra point returned for two points at the end of the first quarter.
Linebacker Kaveon Williams led the team with four tackles, two for loss and forced a fumble. Fellow linebacker Dierre Blash also filled up his stat line, collecting two tackles, both for loss, a sack and a forced fumble of his own.
The Buckeyes have not allowed a touchdown since the first half of a September 29 contest against RMU-Peoria. Ohio State has outscored its opponents 170-16 on the year, the best scoring differential in the NCFA.
Ohio State is set to take on rival Miami (OH) on Saturday, November 2 at 6 p.m. in what will serve as the Mid-Atlantic West Division title game. The Buckeyes defeated the Redhawks 36-21 last season.
