Mid-Atlantic Conference Title Game Pits Top-Ranked Buckeyes against Coppin State

For the second straight season, the Ohio State Club Football team will compete for the Mid-Atlantic Conference title.

The National Club Football Association (NCFA) announced that the game will kick off at 3 p.m. on November 16 from the Pitt Sports Dome in Pittsburgh. The Buckeyes are set to take on the Coppin State University Eagles for the right to advance to the NCFA semi-finals.

Ohio State enters the game with a perfect 6-0 record while the Eagles come in with a perfect 4-0 conference record, checking in at 5-2 overall.

The two teams have met twice before in 2012 and 2013, with Coppin State winning both matchups and going on to win the NCFA National Championship both seasons.

This season, the Buckeyes boast the top-scoring offense in the NCFA, averaging 41.4 points per contest. The Ohio State offense is paced by sophomore quarterback Kellyn Gerenstein, who has accounted for 20 touchdowns (12 passing, eight rushing) and 978 total yards of offense in five games. He leads the NCFA in completion percentage (67.65) and as of Nov. 6, was tied for the NCFA lead in touchdown passes.

On the other side of the ball, Ohio State features the second best scoring defense in the country, surrendering just 4.8 points per game. Two-time NCFA All-American and Buckeye nose guard Chase Gasser leads Ohio State in total tackles (33) and sacks (4.0) while the secondary has yet to surrender a passing touchdown in 2019.

The Ohio State offense is set to face its stiffest challenge yet against the Eagles, who have collected a league-high 11 interceptions in seven games this season, four of which have been returned for touchdowns.

Ohio State and Coppin State had one common opponent in 2019. Both teams played Wright State with the Eagles coming away with a 40-6 road win over the Raiders while the Buckeyes collected a 46-2 win at home over WSU.

Last season’s appearance in the Mid-Atlantic Conference title game resulted in a 56-17 loss to The Apprentice School, which went on to win the national title.
