Promotions and Staff Additions for 2020 Season

After capturing the first national championship in program history, head coach James Grega has announced minor changes to the coaching staff for the 2020 season.

Ohio State has added two former players to the staff for the upcoming season, starting with Raheem MassenburgMassenburg played for the Buckeyes from 2012-14 as a cornerback and will be tasked with coaching Ohio State’s defensive backs.

Grega also announced that Justin Cook will also be joining the coaching staff, and will work primarily with Ohio State’s wide receivers, tight ends and defensive line. Cook played linebacker and tight end for the Buckeyes in their championship season of 2019, catching two touchdown passes on offense and collecting 30 tackles, four sacks and three forced fumbles on defense.

In addition to Massenburg’s arrival, Grega announced title promotions for the majority of his returning staff from the championship season.

Defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Dylan Barron will now also assume the Assistant Head Coach role. He will be more involved in off-the-field decisions moving forward in addition to his tasks calling the defense.

Assistant coach Matt Thiede has also earned a promotion, being named Run Game Coordinator in addition to his role as the offensive and defensive line coach. In his new role, Thiede will be more heavily involved in offensive game planning as well as in-game play calling.

Student assistant Logan Koch, who also serves as the team treasurer, will also serve as special teams coordinator in 2019. In addition, he will continue to assist in offensive game planning as he did in his first year on staff.
