National Club Football Association President Sandy Sanderson announced today that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fall 2020 season has been cancelled after multiple club sports departments across the league were shut down.
A Spring Season is being considered by the league and if confirmed, will be announced at a later date.
“While all of us want to compete, the health and safety of our players, coaches and staff comes first,” said Ohio State head coach James Grega. “We are hopeful that with the NCFA’s leadership and cooperation across the league we can salvage a season in the spring, assuming it is safe to do so.”
The Buckeyes are the defending NCFA champions, having defeated Oakland University 36-9 in the 2019 NCFA National Championship bowl game on Dec. 7. The victory capped a perfect 9-0 season and the first national title in program history.
“We were expecting to return the majority of our roster from our title run, so this obviously hurts,” Grega said. “But the safety of our student-athletes remains the top priority so we will get to work on defending our title either in the spring or fall of 2021.”
