For the first time in nearly a decade, the Ohio State Club Football team will return to Granville, Ohio to take on the Denison Big Red (JV).
The game is scheduled for Sunday, September 26 with a kickoff time of 3 p.m. EST.
The Buckeyes have taken on Denison’s JV squad twice in the past, splitting the two meetings. The Big Red came away with a 23-14 win over Ohio State in 2012, before the Buckeyes got revenge a year later with a 31-14 victory.
The 2013 victory was prominently featured in The Other Eleven, a documentary surrounding that season’s Buckeye team. In that game, quarterback turned current head coach James Grega threw for 206 yards and a touchdown to receiver Nick Blaine, while Ohio State also amassed 133 yards rushing, including a 1-yard scoring plunge from running back Matt Taylor.
Ohio State’s final two touchdown plays came on special teams and defense – a scoop-and-score by cornerback Aaron Phillips and a pick-6 by safety Jeff Markam – respectively.
Denison’s varsity squad put together an 8-2 record in 2019 and has put together seven consecutive winning seasons. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Buckeyes have not played a game since capturing the 2019 NCFA National Championship and completing a perfect 9-0 season.
