Wide Receiver Geoff Green turning pro, signs with Frankfurt Pirates of German Football League

For the first time in Ohio State Club Football history, a now-former Buckeye is going pro.

Wide receiver Geoff Green, who led the National Club Football Association in receptions (36), receiving yards (713) and receiving touchdowns (8) in 2019, has signed with the Frankfurt Pirates of the German Football League 2.

Just three days before signing with the Pirates, Green had been named a Buckeye captain for the upcoming 2021 season. His career with the Buckeyes is now over, but his impact on the team remains.

Despite playing just one season with the Buckeyes, he sits atop most receiving categories in team history. He helped lead Ohio State to the first national title in program history and is also in the process of earning his PhD in Speech and Hearing at The Ohio State University.

“We are so proud of Geoff and everything he continues to accomplish in both his academic and now athletic career,” Ohio State Club Football Head Coach James Grega, Jr. said. “This is just the first step in his professional playing career. We are so grateful for everything he did for our program and I cannot wait to follow his progress at the next level.”

“Playing professionally was not something I considered until Coach Grega told me it was something he thought I could achieve,” Green said. “Originally, I just started playing because I missed the game and wanted to stay in shape while in grad school, but after our conversation I became determined to pursue the possibility. It just goes to show how powerful it can be to have someone believe in your abilities, even before you see them for yourself.”

The Frankfurt Pirates are set to begin their 2021 season on June 6.
