A week after defeating Ohio Northern University’s JV program 46-7, the Ohio State Club Football team has reclaimed the No. 1 overall ranking in the NCFA. Defending NCFA national champions Gordon State, who fell to Central GA Tech over the weekend, now sit at No. 4 in the league’s coaches poll.
Through four weeks of NCFA play, the Buckeyes boast the best point differential in the league, outscoring opponents 163-7. Ohio State has yet to allow a touchdown defensively and the offense has been forced to punt just four times in three contests, all of which have featured running clocks in the second half.
The Buckeyes are one of five remaining undefeated teams in the NCFA, joining Central GA Tech, George Mason, Sacred Heart and Michigan State. Ohio State quarterback Spencer Moore leads all NCFA players through four weeks in touchdown passes (14), completion percentage (79%), total touchdowns (18), and yards per completion (18.5). Buckeye wide receivers Abdou Keita (285) and Zach Hayes (256) rank as the top-two receivers in the NCFA in receiving yards while Hayes leads all players with six touchdown receptions. Running backs Jack Laing (188) and Johnathan Thiele (171) rank fourth and fifth respectively in the league in rushing yards while Moore is tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns with four.
Defensively, freshman linebacker Tyler Beckman leads the Buckeyes in total tackles with 23, with junior safety Patrick Parrish not far behind with 17. Sophomore defensive end Daniel Sankiewicz leads the team in sacks with 2.5, with seven total Buckeyes having recorded at least one sack through three games. The Ohio State defense has surrendered just 16 first downs in three games played, and has only allowed opponents to reach the red zone on three occasions.
Ohio State’s schedule will only ramp up, as the Buckeyes are set for their fifth-ever matchup against Denison University’s JV squad coming out of the off week. Ohio State and Denison have split the previous four matchups, with the Buckeyes coming away with wins in 2013 and 2022 while the Big Red collected victories in 2012 and 2021. Following the showdown with Denison, the Buckeyes will face their third and final NCAA JV opponent, Wittenberg University, on Oct. 29. The Tigers varsity team currently sits at 4-1.
The matchup with Denison University is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Deeds Field – Piper Stadium in Granville, Ohio.
