Coming off of the best single-season passing performance in NCFA history, quarterback Spencer Moore is taking his talents overseas.
Moore, who led the Buckeyes to a conference title and NCFA runner-up finish in 2023, signed a contract with the Cologne Crocodiles of the German Football League on Thursday, June 20. He becomes the third former Ohio State Club Football alum to sign a professional football contract joining Geoff Green (currently playing for the Solingen Paladins), and Praise Olatoke, who recently signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.
In his lone season as Ohio State’s starting quarterback, Moore completed 60% of his passes in 2023, throwing for 2,209 yards and 32 touchdowns to just eight interceptions. His 32 touchdown passes broke the NCFA record and he is one of just two players in league history to eclipse 2,000 yards passing in a single season. For his career, Moore completed 185-of-299 (62%) passes for 2,817 yards and 39 touchdowns to nine interceptions. From 2019-22, he primarily played tight end and served as Ohio State’s backup signal caller. He started his first game at QB for Ohio State in a 2022 regular season contest against Michigan State, stepping in for an injured Kellyn Gerenstein. In that game he threw for 381 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Buckeyes to a 52-17 win. Moore is the only player to be on the roster for each of Ohio State’s two national titles and four conference titles.
Moore eclipsed the 300-yard passing mark three times in his career, against MSU in 2022 and against Wright State and Toledo in 2023. He threw four or more touchdowns passes in seven of his 10 career starts at quarterback and was named the NCFA Offensive MVP at quarterback in 2023.
The Crocodiles are currently 5-2 on the 2024 season and are bringing in Moore to help get them to the playoffs. Moore is set to make his first start with the Crocodiles against the Krefeld Ravens on June 30. The Ravens are currently 6-0 and sit atop the West Region of the GFL.
The Crocodiles split their first two meetings with the Solingen Paladins, for whom Green plays. In the event Cologne and Solingen were to meet in the playoffs, it would pit Moore against Green. Moore’s first career collegiate touchdown pass was thrown to Green in a 2019 win over Pittsburgh for the Buckeyes.
