Ohio State has been informed by the coaching staff at Denison University that due to injuries sustained in the first four weeks of their season, the Big Red is canceling the scheduled matchup against the Buckeyes on Sunday, Oct. 5.
The Buckeyes were unable to find a replacement game and therefore will receive a forfeit victory in the National Club Football Association standings to move to 3-0 on the year and will be off this weekend. Prior to the cancellation, Ohio State was 3-2 all-time against Denison University’s JVs with the last matchup coming in 2023, a 30-3 victory for the Buckeyes.
Through two weeks, quarterback Niko Pappas leads the NCFA in all major offensive categories including passing yards (351), rushing yards (197) and total touchdowns (10). The Buckeye offense has scored 40 or more points in each of its first two games despite second half running clocks while also holding its opponents to just 10 total points in two games played. Defensively, safety Keegan Lynch is tied for the league lead in interceptions with two, while freshman linebacker Tyler Siegel leads the NCFA in total tackles with 19 through two weeks of play.
The Buckeyes once again were unanimously ranked No. 1 in the NCFA entering Week 3 and have held the NCFA’s top ranking since the beginning of the 2024 season.
Ohio State Club Football is set to return to action on Sunday, Oct. 12 against Ohio Wesleyan’s JV squad. Last year, the Buckeyes overcame an injury to Pappas and a late OWU comeback effort to win 17-14 against the Bishops. Kickoff from Selby Stadium is set for 2 p.m.
