Position: Special Teams Coordinator / Defensive Line Coach / Recruiting Coordinator
Bio: A native of Columbus, Ohio, McNeill joined the Buckeye staff in 2023, and immediately elevated the play of the Ohio State defensive line.
Four of McNeill’s defensive linemen were named to either Second Team or Honorable Mention NCFA All-American lists, as eight different defensive linemen recorded at least one sack in 2023. As a team, Ohio State posted 30 sacks in 2023, nearly doubling the amount of sacks posted in 2022 (16). Following his first season on staff, McNeill added the title of Recruiting Coordinator to his list of responsibilities.
In his second season, Ohio State defensive linemen alone collected 27.5 sacks, including 10 by Matthew Humphreys, who went on to earn NCFA Defensive MVP, the first Buckeye in league history to win the award. Prior to 2025, McNeill added another title to his job description, taking over as Special Teams Coordinator in addition to his duties recruiting and with the defensive line. In 2025, Ohio State won its second-straight national title as defensive end Trey Jones was named NCFA Defensive MVP while also setting a new program mark for career sacks. Overall, five defensive linemen have earned First or Second Team All-American honors since 2023, as did Ohio State’s kicker (Jacob Cramer) and long snapper (Liam Ahern).
A graduate and two-year letterman at St. Charles Preparatory School, McNeill went on to play five years of semi-pro football with the Ohio Storm and Columbus War Eagles as a linebacker and lineman. He also has coaching experience at the semi-pro and youth levels, serving as the head coach of the Columbus Bredren Knights and defensive coordinator of the Canal Winchester Tomahawks, respectively.
McNeill was elected assistant coach of the year by Ohio State’s players following the 2023 season.
