Bio: One of the most productive running backs in program history, Johnathan Thiele is set to begin his collegiate coaching career in 2025.
Thiele joined the program as a freshman in 2021 and despite battling serious injuries in each of his first three seasons, graduated as the third all-time leading rusher in program history. Thiele finished his career with 1,163 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, helping Ohio State to four straight national title appearances, winning in both 2021 and 2024. He posted three separate 100-yard rushing games in his career and had his most productive season as a senior, rushing for career high numbers in carries (63), rushing yards (363) and touchdowns (5). He is only one of four players in program history to eclipse 1,000 career rushing yards. Thiele was also a three-time captain and served as team president in his time as a player.
Thiele, along with fellow assistant coach Nick Untch, will be tasked with coaching the running backs in 2025. Thiele has prior coaching experience, serving as an assistant coach at his high school alma mater Madeira for three seasons.
